4 Dead After Axe Wielding Man Attacks Children in China
BEIJING A man with an ax attacked children and parents walking on a city street in central China on Wednesday, killing four people and wounding two, a local official said.
Villagers have identified the perpetrator of the attack on the outskirts of the city of Gongyi as a local farmer with a history of mental illness, said a city government spokesman who declined to give his name, as is common among Chinese bureaucrats.
The spokesman said one young girl was among those killed while another was seriously wounded when the alleged assailant, Wang Hongbin, began attacking people on a main street in Gongyis Shecun township at about 8:40 a.m. (12:40 GMT). The spokesman said Wang was detained but gave no other details
