Yes he did. Living and growing up in the AV, he was one of the first real heroes we learned about because of all the aviation history here, including that famous flight

Chuck Yeager, a former U.S. Air Force officer who became the first pilot to break the speed of sound, died Monday. He was 97.

NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine called his death "a tremendous loss to our nation."

RIP General. His story is told in the movie The Right Stuff. It is one of my favourite films. Chuck was one of the consultants for the movie as well as making a Cameo Appearance as the Bartender at Pancho’s Happy Bottom Riding Club which was where all the Test Pilots used to spend their spare time.

One of my favs was seeing him in this F-15 at age 89
