About this Case:

On July 6, 1987 Lynda Avery's body was found in the basement of the house in which she was living. The cause of death was multiple stab wounds and her throat had also been cut several times. The investigation revealed Lynda frequented bars in the Denver and Glendale areas. She lived with her sister and brother-in-law who had recently moved from Aurora to Washington State and were planning to sell the home. Lynda was living alone at the time of the homicide and was dating an individual by the name of "Steve". No witnesses were found who could put Lynda with any particular individual that night. In an interaction with a female police officer, Steven Pankey said that he had buried multiple bodies in Colorado. I think his statements were kind of blown off. I started researching cold cases and landed on Lynda Lea Avery. She was said to be dating a guy named “Steve” at the time of her murder. My mind just goes there!! I think he should be looked at more closely in other cases in both CO and ID where he resided based on his own incriminating statement.

Steve Pankey, the 71-year-old man accused of kidnapping and murdering 12-year-old Jonelle Matthews in 1984, told a police officer in the late ‘90s that he buried bodies in Colorado, according to testimony Tuesday.
