The missing male was identified as Dallas Roberts, of Montrose, and he was last seen on October 28 in the area of the national park.

Roberts is described as five-foot-11 and about 130 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

was last seen Monday in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park area.

Dallas Roberts can be seen above.

Drone and grid searches were underway Thursday.

Park rangers found Roberts’ vehicle about 3 miles down the precipitous East Portal Road, where it had gone off the side and about 150 feet down the hill into some oak brush, Montrose County Sheriff Gene Lillard said.

A deputy clambered down the embankment to the vehicle, which he found empty, but with signs the driver had been injured — evidence showed the driver’s head had likely hit the inside windshield, Lillard said.

It’s sounds like his vehicle was found the same day he was reported missing. Maybe finding the vehicle is what actually prompted the missing persons announcement from LE? But the online news article didn’t come out until the 30th…

Idk, maybe the vehicle was found later in the day on the 28th. Maybe LE wanted to avoid mobilizing any public search in such dangerous terrain (I just can think of no other reason why the online article didn’t come out on the 29th)

Obvious questions:

-was his phone in the vehicle?
-when was the last communication from his phone?
- if they think he was in the vehicle when it crashed (something that seems to me to be highly likely) how much time does LE think may have passed between when the accident occurred and when the vehicle was found? How far could he have gone?
-
Hoping Robert is found soon!

The Grand Junction Police Department located his roommate and also tried pinging his phone. Lillard said the device was found in Roberts’ room, along with his wallet. The roommate reportedly told the GJPD Roberts told him he was going to hide his phone and that he was going to Utah.

Here is a picture of the East Portal Rd. in the park where Dallas Roberts' vehicle was found. I've heard it's beautiful but hazardous. Gunnison National Park is in the opposite direction of Utah, so something unfortunate may have been going on.

This MSM article from The State (Columbia, SC) includes the below note per the investigating sheriff that I haven't seen reported previously:

"Earlier that day, the vehicle was spotted traveling at a high rate of speed while bypassing the national park’s entry gate, according to the sheriff."
