Jennifer Sue Larsen
Age: 21
Date of Disappearance: 8-11-95
Date of Discovery: 10-4-95
Body found Location: C.R. 161 and C.R. 30 (Quincy), Sunflower Field, Strasburg, Colorado
-----------
Timeline:-
On the evening of August 10, 1995, Jenny’s best girl friend hosted a party at her home on Layton Drive in Aurora. As the evening grew late, one couple retired to an upstairs room. Jenny’s best friend and another male later claimed Jenny left around 4:00 a.m. However, a neighbor who woke to the sound of her dogs barking placed that time closer to 6:00 a.m.
In the pre-dawn light of August 11, 1995, the neighbor watched as a female left the residence next door, got into a red car parked across the street, and drove off. This is the last reported sighting of Jennifer Larsen alive.
On August 13, 1995, after unsuccessfully trying to get in touch with his daughter, Jennifer Larsen’s father called the Aurora Police Department to report her missing. He had gone to her apartment to check on her cats and did not notice anything unusual or missing, and subsequent investigation showed no signs of forced entry. Jenny’s red 1994 Toyota coupe was also unaccounted for.
On August 20, 1995, Jenny’s red Toyota coupe was sighted by Jenny’s best friend and her same male companion from the party on the 10th. It was parked in an apartment complex on South Memphis Way about one mile from her friends home in Aurora; driver’s seat pushed all the way back, unlocked, windows partially down, with the keys lying on the front floor mat. Inquires revealed that management received complaints about this car all week, as it had been blocking access to a basketball hoop/play area. Trace evidence was collected from the car.
Just about six weeks later, on a frosty October morning, an eastern Colorado a farmer southeast of Strasburg, Colorado, made a grisly discovery. Amongst his sunflower crop, far out on a back country road inside the barbed wire fence, was a skeleton lying on its back.
The investigation and dental x-rays identified these remains as Jennifer Sue Larsen. Both time and the elements had taken their toll, but when the coroner’s report was finalized, Autopsy results determined the manner of death was homicide.
Several strong suspect leads have been developed in this case, to include the male companion of Jenny’s best friend with his history of violence towards women, as well as other acquaintances and “friends of friends” who identified with Jenny’s carefree lifestyle. Of particular note is the curious incident where friends of Jenny’s went out very late one evening, not long after she had been found, to visit the field where she was discovered. They came upon a light-colored truck parked on the side of the country road, which was occupied by a white male sitting there, in the dark. They asked the male if he knew about a body being discovered out there, whereupon the male provided them with exact details of the site, which they found. Investigators are open to the possibility this male is linked to other unsolved homicides in the area.
