A Montrose man is missing, possibly since mid-April, authorities announced.
John Stegemans vehicle was found April 12 on Divide Road in Ouray County, apparently stuck.
Officials red-tagged it, thinking it had simply been abandoned, but on April 27, turkey hunters found a dog near the truck and tried to take it back to the address engraved on its tags. The address was Stegemans. His curious neighbors asked the hunters how come they had the dog and, upon being told, called the Montrose Police Department to initiate a check of welfare.
Officers checked the residence but could not locate Stegeman; a check with neighbors revealed he may have last been seen April 11, one day before his truck was tagged.
The search was on hiatus May 1, due to wind, weather and a snowstorm expected at elevations above 9,000 feet.
