If she was planning on driving to Pierce (then on to LaSalle) that's over 40 miles just to Pierce. A donut is intended to drive for short distances, presumably where you can get a repair made, and is safe only at low speeds. If you go much over 50 it may cause the tire to overheat and fail, leading to a blowout and loss of vehicle control. At her young age, she may not have known that.

I'm afraid if she tried to drive the posted speed limit or higher with the donut, she may have had an accident and ended up off the roadway.

Seems like in addition to the donut, the car has structural/frame issues too. And she was driving in the dark.

From social media, it sounds like there were (informal?) search parties yesterday afternoon before the snowstorm where folks were going to retrace her presumed route.

She was wearaing slippers? I missed that on the initial report. With that and a hoodie, if she did end off the road, she could be in danger of hypothermia. (I NEVER would have done this in my 20's but now I have a kit in my car with a minus 30 sleeping bag, protein bars/nuts/etc., water, and other safety items if driving in winter). Did her father question her as to her destination (40 miles from Loveland) when she dropped him off given the donut, the car's history, and what she was wearing? (Hoping he did and she changed her mind and went somewhere else that was close and her phone just died).

This seems like a good case to have an aerial search with either a helicopter or drones to search for the vehicle. I hope the police are taking it seriously enough to do that.

Obviously it's weather dependent, but if the skies are clear (VFR) the Civil Air Patrol has aircraft and sUAS oeprations for various missions, including search and rescue. sUAS provide additional capabilities for aerial reconnaissance and imagery collection. Most LE operations in areas of the country with wilderness area are familiar with them, so hopefully a contact has been made. Emergency Services & Operations

Large Emergency Response Spotted Near Hwy 402

At approximately 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, I was driving north on Weld County Road 13. At the intersection of Highway 402, there was a police and EMS presence, and it appeared officers were looking at the pond on the southeast corner of the intersection.

I believe 402 might be the east-west section of road just south of Loveland labeled "18". There is a "county Road 13C that crosses it but I've also seen a map that lists Weld County Road 13 as "Colorado Blvd".

Here is the google map of Weld County Road 13. Weld County Rd 13 · Colorado

UPDATE: Found it - yes "18" is actually 402 and that runs straight west out of the park and ride she was last seen at. Good map here: Small picture clip of the 2 ponds attached. Loveland Johnston Park and Ride The speed limit on 402 is 65 mph. If she was driving that on a donut, there's a solid chance it could have blown out as I had stated earlier (they are just not designed for those speeds). I hope it's not her, but I'm deeply worried that it is.

None of these areas are remote and are in fact well populated. These roads all well traveled. If she had simply gone off the road again, her car should have been found.

It does get a little more rural depending on what route you take to Pierce (her first destination). Attached is a google map view of the various routes. The link: Loveland to Pierce

No where in there are you more than a quarter mile from a house and the roads have significant traffic at all times. If she just ran off the road she would have been found immediately.

Very minor detail, but (JMO) at her age, "slippers" could refer to short or clog style Ugg-type shoes, if described by an older person. Still not ideal, but warmer and sturdier than what many people visualize as "slippers," and often worn with socks as well.

Thanks, could be. But I'm 67 and never referred to clogs, ugg type, or crocks as "slippers" so I was thinking "indoor outdoor" type slipper. I have run to the store in mine before, they're studier than some of the shoes I own, just not winter warm or at all waterproof.

Can confirm. Jumping in late here but I’ve been following. Fiancé and I are local to the area (we live between two states at the moment for school but we are from Loveland). As others have said, Weld County Rd 13 is just referred to as Colorado Blvd. These are roads we ourselves use frequently. Someone would see a car sitting off the road here. We haven’t seen anything ourselves however these last few days have been very cold and it has been snowing. Hoping for the best. Kaylee is just a bit younger than us.

Vehicle found. :-(

I saw this pop up as I posted. Hoping for a better outcome but I think my gut knows what to expect here.

Edit: Article has updated to state that a body has been found in Kaylee's car. Rest well Kaylee.

I'm deeply saddened, but I'm not at all surprised - the donut throws the whole driving dynamics of the car off. If she'd had to turn or brake suddenly it would be easy to lose control (most people don't know that the donut requires around 60 psi, almost twice that of a regular tire) and braking would be uneven. That's in addition to the overheating and possibly blowing out after driving above 50 mph. At 20, I didn't know this, I only knew because I had a big brother who told me, otherwise, no idea. So sad for the loss of a young life and the anguish her parents have to be going through.

Kaylee's body and her vehicle were found in the Timnath area near Larimer County Road 44, also known as Prospect Road. The car could be seen turned over in a ditch. The location is called the Larimer and Weld Canal.
Family of woman who went missing in Northern Colorado says her body was found Looks like the most likely route was Interstate 25 North, then get off the interstate onto Prospect road which would have taken her to Pierce. RIP Kaylee.

DBM: I had the wrong street after looking it up.

Edit: The area Kaylee and her car were found in is about 15 miles Northeast of the park and ride she was last seen at. Much closer to the city of Fort Collins than Loveland now. It's another 15 miles East to Pierce (one place she was supposed to stop according to a post above) and about 30 miles Southeast to La Salle.
