Olea was last seen in Colorado Springs, Colorado on November 18, 2006. She was visiting her brother's home when she looked at her cellular phone and said she had to go and would be back. She left at 6:30 p.m. An incoming call to Olea's phone at 7:14 p.m. lasted three minutes; this was the last call she took. The following day, Olea didn't show up to pick her young son up from his father. She was reported missing on November 20.

Olea left most of her belongings behind, including new living room furniture and uncashed child support checks, but her phone and purse disappeared with her and were never found.

Six days after she vanished, her SUV, a blue 1999 Chevrolet Blazer with the Colorado license plate number 165LMG, was found locked and abandoned in the parking lot of Zio’s Italian Kitchen a restaurant in the 6600 block of Corporate Drive near Interstate 25 and Rockrimmon Boulevard. The restaurant is a long way from her apartment. The brother of one of Olea's friends was employed there.

Olea lost her job at Mimi's Cafe off north Powers Boulevard shortly before she disappeared. She was looking for another job and several potential employers left messages on her cellular phone. Her loved ones said it would be uncharacteristic of her behavior to abandon her child. She shared custody of him with his father.

Olea's family stated she was behaving normally before she vanished and didn't appear to be stressed about anything. Foul play is suspected in her case, which remains unsolved.

Maria Rosario Olea vanished 15 weeks ago. The 29-year-old’s belongings were left in her Colorado Springs apartment, including uncashed childsupport checks and a new living room set. Her SUV was abandoned in a restaurant parking lot. Sometimes her sister-in-law, Patricia Maycott, thinks maybe Olea left on her own. “But I really don’t think that,” she said. “She wouldn’t leave her baby behind.” The day after her family last saw her, Olea reportedly didn’t show up Nov. 19 to pick up her 2-yearold son, Axel, from the boy’s father.

Colorado Springs police say her disappearance is suspicious and have “a number of people of interest” they’re questioning, detective Mike Happ said. “We think something bad happened to Rosario. Whether it was by her own hand or whether she was victimized, that hasn’t been determined,” Happ said. “It’s fair to say investigators haven’t identified anything to believe she is still active in this community or anywhere else.” Olea’s family doesn’t think she’s dead, Maycott said, because they’ve talked with two psychics who say she’s alive but being held against her will. “Every day we’re thinking, if they have her hostage, are they treating her OK, is she drugged up, can she get away?” Maycott said. “It’s been very stressful for all of us.”

Maycott regularly keeps in touch with detectives and set up a tip line last week at 392-8058, hoping those who are afraid to talk with police will call her with information. Olea’s family last saw her Nov. 18, when she came by her brother’s home, Maycott said. She left about 6:30 p.m. “She looked at her cell phone and said ‘I’ll be back,’” Maycott said. “From then on, no one saw her.” Olea’s cell phone records show an incoming call at 7:14 p.m. that lasted three minutes, Maycott said. “That’s the last call she took,” she said. “We think she disappeared Saturday. Sunday there was a birthday party she was supposed to meet a couple of friends at, but she didn’t show up.”

Her family reported her missing Nov. 20, the day after the father of Olea’s son said she didn’t come to pick up the boy. The two shared custody of Axel, who is in his dad’s care. Olea’s locked sport utility vehicle was found abandoned a week later at Zio’s Italian Kitchen, 6650 Corporate Drive, near Interstate 25 and Rockrimmon Boulevard. A brother of one of Olea’s friends worked at the restaurant, police said. Olea lived in Colorado Springs for 3½ years — about three of which were with Maycott and a brother.

In the weeks before she disappeared, she got an apartment at 2610 E. Fountain Blvd. Olea had lost her job at Mimi’s Cafe off North Powers Boulevard shortly before disappearing, Maycott said. “On her voice messages, there were a couple of people leaving messages about jobs available. One asked her to come back and fill out more paperwork,” she said. “She was looking for work.” Olea is described as Hispanic, about 5 feet 5 inches tall, with brownish-red hair and brown eyes.
