On Tuesday, members of the Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue swift-water team found no signs of the 38-year-old Matthew Shelters, after searching the Yampa River from Rotary Park to Milner.

On Monday, about 75 people met at Old Town Pub to establish search grids and discuss strategy for finding Shelters. Residents and business owners were asked to review any video footage they had from late April 23 to early April 24.

Shelters was last seen leaving Back Door Grill on foot sometime after midnight April 24. Police have reviewed video footage from Back Door Grill showing Shelters at 12:20 a.m. They are still reviewing video footage from The Flour Mill, but they have not found footage of Shelters there after leaving Back Door Grill.

He lives at The Flour Mill apartments along the Yampa River, and his apartment is undisturbed.

There were also people meeting in Denver on Tuesday to plan poster distribution on the Front Range.

Shelters is white, 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs about 170 pounds. He has a beard and was last seen wearing a dark hoodie, a dark-colored, flat-billed hat, brown pants and light-colored shoes.

I took a little virtual walk from the bar down both 8th and 9th and noticed there is parking along the river at the end of 9th - could he have parked there? It and the businesses on the river are literally steps away from the bank which is steep without a lot of drop-off. There is also a footbridge from that parking area that goes over the river.

His apartments are really not close - I suppose he could have walked home along Yampa and onto the trail. I am curious if he has a car at all?

I hope the family has all the support they need for river searches.

Search efforts — on both land and water— have expanded to beyond the Steamboat area to include Hayden, Craig, Kremmling and Silverthorne.

Police were not searching for any vehicles associated with Shelters' disappearance.

$7,500 reward now offered for whereabouts of missing Steamboat resident

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The reward has been increased to $7,500 for information leading to the whereabouts of 38-year-old Steamboat Springs resident Matthew Shelters.

[...]

“We’re in a situation where we have way too little information,” Nathan Shelters said. “The police are working really hard, but we need more information.”

[...]

“We continue to work on following up on any tips,” Chief Cory Christensen said. “We are also communicating regularly with the family.”

Police have not uncovered any evidence that a crime has been committed.

The Urbane clothing store in downtown Steamboat has been helping coordinate search efforts.

At the business, there is a gridded map, and volunteers are working through areas to search.

There are 2,300 people now following a Facebook page called Search for Shelters, which has information about the search efforts.

By Thursday evening, more than $10,000 had been raised on a fundraising website to help pay for costs associated with the search.

Steamboat Springs man still missing after 10 days

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — It’s been a frustrating 10 days for family members, friends, volunteers and members of the Steamboat Springs Police Department as they continue to search for missing Steamboat Springs resident Matthew Shelters.

“It literally breaks our heart. Every day we are talking to the family, which is, as you can imagine, very upset about this,” said Steamboat Police Chief Cory Christensen. “We appreciate the support that we have gotten, but we would like to find answers. We will take whatever we can to try to figure out where he is.”

[...]

“Everybody is absolutely exhausted,” said Shelters' brother, Nathan Shelters.” People are stepping back a little bit right now to go back to their family for awhile, to rest, and then, we will be trying to regroup. We have been meeting with police to go over what is going to happen next. We are struggling for information now, and there is complete and utter lack of information.”

A group of more than 50 people showed up Saturday to help search for the missing man. They scoured county roads and other locations.

Classic Air used a helicopter to search the length of the Yampa River from Steamboat Springs to Craig, and Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue also ran the river at least once, from the southeast end of town all the way to Milner, but found nothing.

The search for Matt continues.

Father of missing Steamboat man: ‘Help us bring him home’

Surveillance video shows him leaving Back Door Grill on Oak Street in downtown Steamboat at 12:20 a.m...
John said his son was hanging out with friends in an end-of-season celebration at Back Door Grill before his disappearance. He believes his son may have bummed a cigarette before heading outside to smoke it. He also thinks his son may have headed to the VFW, the closest place open at that time of night to purchase cigarettes.
John Shelters said the last known location of his son's phone was near the Bud Werner Memorial Library on Lincoln Avenue.

Few clues surface in search for Steamboat man

Police said he was driving his girlfriend's car to a friend's house and asked if he could park it there for the night. He told the friend he was going to the bars and planned to ride his bike home that night. The bike was later found at E3 Chophouse, where Shelters worked, and the girlfriend’s car was found at the friend’s house.

Police also conducted searches based on the phone's last contact with the Hilltop cellphone tower, which gave them an area within a 120 degree arc. "We know that he was in the arc for an extended period of time before his phone stopped woking," Christensen said. "We didn't locate him, but that's where his phone was. We can't say for certain that he was with the phone

Nothing new on the Facebook page either. It’s been too long. MS needs to be found.

I think about this case a lot and every day that passes it gets a little more sad. I hope the wilderness has been kind enough to preserve a trace and they don't stop looking for it.

Does the water right behind E3 Chophouse flow south to Lake Catamount???

“His vehicle was found at The Flour Mill, where he lives, and his bike was found at E3 Chophouse, where he works as a bartender.”

From the Find Matthew Shelters Facebook page. There appears to be water just behind the E3 Chophouse where he apparently rode his bike the night he went missing. This reminds me so much of Adam Gilbertson. I don’t know if this body of water flows south but I would be looking all along this area.

“The Yampa River then flows north through a high mountain valley, through Stagecoach Reservoir and Lake Catamount, before reaching Steamboat Springs, where it turns sharply west.”

The body of water behind E3 Chophouse is the Yampa River. It flows northbound per Wikipedia.

So Matthew didn't make it to the VFW for cigs, as his father speculated?
