Details of Disappearance
Walczak was last seen at Wild Horse Mesa in Costilla County, Colorado sometime in mid-January 2005. There was several feet of snow on the ground when he disappeared. He has never been heard from again.Walczak left his wallet, money, eyeglasses, boots, jacket and truck in his rural cabin, and his dog was later found wandering nearby. He had left something cooking on the stove and it burned. His cabin smelled of propane and appeared to have been thoroughly cleaned.
Walczak worked as a building contractor at the time of his disappearance. He enjoys fishing and hunting and had lived an outdoor lifestyle for much of his life. He moved to Wild Horse Mesa from Denver, Colorado in 2005. Few details are available in his case.

SAN LUIS - The Costilla County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information on the whereabouts of an area resident missing since January.
Sheriff Roger Benton said Michael Walczak, 62, a resident of the Wild Horse Mesa area near here, was last seen in mid-January. He was reported missing in February.
Walczak is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds. He has blue eyes and balding blonde hair.
A building contractor, Walczak moved to Costilla County last year from the Denver area. He lived in a remote area of the mesa.
The sheriff said that at the time of Walczak’s disappearance, a large amount of snow had been present at the higher elevations in the mesa area. Two search efforts have been fruitless.
