''Turachak's body was found in her apartment on East 17th Avenue on Oct. 5, 1996, by the Denver Police Department and medical personnel. According to the autopsy report, Turachak died from strangulation and blunt force trauma to her head.
Denver Police were notified in August 2004 of a CODIS DNA match to Dawson, who was already in custody for a 2001 sexual assault and homicide in Panama City, Florida, according to an arrest affidavit from DPD. He pleaded guilty in the Florida case to a second-degree murder charge and was sentenced to 25 years. He was extradited from Florida to Colorado in 2023.
DPD detectives conducted a criminal background check for Dawson and found that he was arrested in Denver in August and September of 1996. Those records showed that he was in the Denver area around the time that Turachak was killed.
According to the affidavit, a DPD detective traveled to Florida in December 2004 and interviewed Dawson who provided a statement, but it's unknown what he said because the information is redacted from the affidavit.
According to a prior 9NEWS report, police announced in 2004 that the case was solved.
"My hope would be that he would get the death penalty but I know that's not possible in Colorado," Sarah Oakland, Turachak's daughter, told 9NEWS in 2023. "So think we're all hoping that he rots in jail and we wanted to let him know that we didn't forget."

''The San Francisco Police Department announced on Wednesday that an arrest warrant was issued regarding a 1992 cold case homicide that is linked to a man awaiting trial in another '96 cold case murder in Denver.Police in San Francisco have accused Ricky Dawson, 64, of killing 45-year-old Nancy Hernandez in their city in 1992. Dawson is also accused of killing 35-year-old Terri Turachak in 1996 in Denver. Dawson is being held for trial in Denver for Turachak's '96 murder. After his Denver trial, he will be transported back to San Francisco. He is linked to other sexual assault and homicides in Florida and Washington, the media release says.''

I'm surprised that Ricky Dawson doesn't come up except for this thread on WS. I would be interested in learning more about his other cases. Glad that this old case in SF could be solved.

Also surprised his name did not come up when i searched for it and for his alleged victims too, will look for more.
