Search Ongoing In Colorado Mountains For Missing Man Tyler Gorrell
Aircraft are searching above treeline and searchers with dogs are covering the area on foot.

“The Summit County Rescue Group’s training, dynamic work ethic and commitment to the mission gives me a lot of hope that we can find Tyler and bring him home to his family,” Summit County Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons said in a prepared statement.

Other then the car being found at the trailhead, how did they make a jump from him going missing from downtown Denver to Above treeline in the mountains. I wonder if he is known for impromtu lone hiking trips or if someone dumped his car at "said" trailhead. This is a wierd one....I hope he did not self harm. But above treeline it would not be hard to see someone as its rather open....hmmmm....IMHO

Tyler Gorrell, a 33-year-old Denver resident, is missing in Silverthorne’s backcountry.

[His family was expecting him for a function in a nearby county, but he never showed up.]

[Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons: "Hopefully... this is a case of someone just getting lost. You can get really turned around on a lot of social trails on the Gore Range if you don't know where you're going."]

[Charles Pitman, spokesman for the rescue group: "We had a lot of teams in the field, covering all manner of trails and lakes around the Gore Range... His last known location was the Rock Creek Trailhead, but past that, we're in a bind."

[Pitman pointed out that Gorrell might have gone off the grid on his own accord....]

Denver man Tyler Gorrell missing after hike in Summit County

Alex Gorrell spent the last day of his family vacation standing at the Meadow Creek trailhead in Summit County passing out flyers with his older brother’s picture on them.

“Please keep an eye out for my brother,” Alex Gorrell said to a hiker. “He’s been missing for over a week.”

When another group passed by, he said, “If you see anything, take out your phone and drop a pin.”

Other than his vehicle being at the trailhead was there any evidence that he had gone hiking? I can't imagine going hiking and not telling some friend or family member.

The family seems to think he was hiding where he was going:

[Alex Gorrell and his wife were part of the team that found the Ford Escape on Friday morning.
“Otherwise we’d still be at home not knowing where he went,” Alex Gorrell said. “He put
a lot of effort into covering his tracks.”

Where did you read the quote about "he put a lot of effort into covering his tracks". That was not mentioned in the article - did the brother do an interview?

Hmm. I wonder if that was edited out.

I get the digital replica edition of the Denver Post, and that quote is there in the story. I posted the web link and copied from the replica edition, and I see now from the web story that that quote was taken out. Good catch!

Search suspended for missing Denver man in Summit County

[
Dogs did show interest in an area on Gore Range Trail, about three miles from where Gorrell’s Ford was found. After a very thorough investigation of the area, mostly off trail, no evidence leading to Gorrell was found.

If new leads are developed, a search will be resumed, authorities said. Meanwhile, the sheriff’s office will continue to work with Denver police in determining the missing man’s whereabouts.]

This is not the most useful info but I’ve known Tyler as an acquaintance for several years and my impression of his character is that he is a nice, normal, honest person, easy-going, friendly and professional. He has maintained a good long-term job.

I have always considered myself to be highly perceptive and I’ve never seen any red flags with Tyler. I last saw him about two weeks ago just before he went missing and he seemed the same as always.

Anyway, I am worried about him and hope he is safe and found soon.

Welcome! And thanks for your input. It's always good to hear from people with personal connections. Even with the official search on hold, I'm sure others will be on the lookout to help find Tyler.

I saw Tyler's flyer at the Meadow Creek trailhead in August or September when we hiked Meadow Creek to Gore Lake. I'm sorry he is still missing.
