Colorado - Coronavirus COVID-19

Half of all new COVID-19 cases are variant strain | 9news.com

COLORADO, USA — State leaders say anyone who gets COVID-19 in Colorado right now has a pretty good chance of contracting a mutated version of the virus.

“If you contract COVID-19 today, it’s is more likely that you are exposed and have contracted a variant strain,” said Governor Jared Polis during a press conference on Tuesday.

“About half the specimens we're testing weekly are the B.1.1.7 variant,” he said, referencing the strain first discovered in the U.K.

Testing for COVID is a different process from determining whether each case is a variant. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) says the state lab is currently conducting genome sequencing on about 7% of positive COVID-19 tests to determine if they are variant cases.“

Now Moderna vaccine sparks blood clot fears as patient shares how he thought he was going to die | Daily Mail Online

4/16/21

A man who had the Moderna Covid vaccine says he developed blood clots he feared would kill him.

Jeff Johnson's claims have dragged dragging the Massachusetts-based firm into an ongoing health scare that has already engulfed rival vaccine manufacturers Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca.

Scientists have yet to provide a solid link between the new Covid vaccines and blood clots.

[..]

Although these clots are different than the ones seen in patients who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, the 49-year-old said he was scared he was going to die.

Johnson told KDVR he received the Moderna vaccine at the Salud Family Health Centers in Brighton, where lives.

There were no issues until about one week later when he began feeling swelling, pain and tenderness in his left leg.

[..]

The clots associated with the J&J shot are different, however, and are called cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST).

CVST is a rare type of blood clot that blocks the brain's sinus channels of draining blood, which can cause hemorrhages.

So, far nine patients - two in clinical trials and seven after the vaccine was approved - developed the clot, of which one died and two are in critical condition.

When the polio vaccination came out the government wanted to get kids vaccinated as fast as they could and grabbed up the first vaccine that came out unfortunately out of the first 120,000 kids to receive it 1/3 of them got sick. As it turned out the company that made the vaccine cut corners in attempt to get it out first and it proved costly.

I am not an anti-vaxxer at all and have already had my Covid-19 vaccination but seeing people get sick especially when the doses first came out is not surprising. It's not a government conspiracy as much as a company wanting to be the first one to develop a vaccine and getting a big boost for their business.

Great post.

I believed the same true about J & J -- knowing they were already so far behind the others, decided to spend more time to come out with a single vaccine formula for one and done.

Unfortunately - two deaths reported after J & J vaccine from rare blood clots that formed in the veins that drain blood from the brain (indicative of CVST).

Full disclaimer: I received the J & J vaccine just before it was paused and other than I thought the shot significantly more painful as compared to the flu shot, I've had no side effects --not even sore arm.

I'm glad the pause lifted.

Colorado is seeing a rapid increase in COVID cases among children, health officials say

“DENVER — While the state’s overall case rates of COVID-19 have stabilized somewhat over the last month, Colorado is seeing a jump in cases among middle school and high school aged children, State Epidemiologist Dr. Rachel Herlihy said Tuesday.

Dr. Herlihy said the state is also seeing an upward trend in cases among children 3-10 years old, but cases among children 11-17 years old has shot up dramatically. Herlihy did not offer an explanation as to why those age groups are seeing an increase in cases.”

Herlihy didn’t offer an explanation because he’s not dumb. He probably figures since State leaders have ignored State health experts this whole time, why bother? The mere suggestion child cases are up because school have re-opened would create “don’t you dare jeopardize the All-Star game” enemies and accomplish squat.

New COVID Variant Found For The First Time In Colorado In Mesa County

“A coronavirus variant that was first identified in India has been discovered in Colorado for the first time.

State epidemiologist Dr. Rachel Herlihy told reporters in a press briefing Thursday that five cases of the B1617.2 strain had been identified in Mesa County. None of the people had a recent travel history.”

Colorado's Mask Mandate Is Over If You're Fully Vaccinated
May 14, 2021

“Gov. Jared Polis said Friday that the fully vaccinated don't need to wear a mask unless a private business requires them.”

[...]

“After a nudge from federal health officials, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis on Friday dropped the remaining mask requirements in the state, even as COVID-19 case numbers here remain among the highest in the nation.”

[...]

“Dr. John Swartzberg, clinical professor emeritus and infectious diseases expert at the University of California Berkeley School of Public Health, also used a gambling analogy to describe Polis's decision. But he is less optimistic.

"The odds are a little better than even that the governor's plans will not result in more cases and deaths," Swartzberg said in response to emailed questions. "A little better than even is not good enough when we're talking about people's health and lives. Instead, I would have set aspirational goals (e.g., a positivity rate of less than three percent to five percent; a fully-vaccinated percent greater than 70 percent). When they would be met or significantly approached, that would be the time to do what he is now doing."”

[...]

“By Sunday evening, most metro Denver counties including Denver, along with Larimer, Broomfield and Clear Creek will have eliminated all COVID-19 restrictions on business and workplace capacity.

With 81 percent of the state’s acute care hospital beds already in use, and more than 600 still hospitalized with COVID-19, the elimination of restrictions comes with some risk of a virus resurgence. But a full re-opening of the economy also puts some pressure on the nearly 50 percent of Coloradans who have not yet been vaccinated, and will now need to be if they want to safely resume their pre-pandemic lives without extraordinary protective measures.”

Radio host Bob Enyart dies of COVID-19 | 9news.com

[Recently, Enyart urged a boycott of COVID-19 vaccines "to further increase social tension and put pressure on the child killers."

At one time, Enyart also called for the death penalty for women who have abortions. His opposition to COVID-19 vaccines was based on the use of fetal stem cells in their development.
...
Enyart's longtime radio co-host told 9NEWS, "I'm sure he'd do the same thing all over again."]

I am no longer in Colorado but have been keeping an eye on what is going on with the pandemic and Covid numbers have gone way up. I have been thinking going back there to work over the holidays but am rethinking doing that now.
