Colorado law firm asking for victims of large forensic scandal to come forward
After a large forensic scandal involving over 1,000 cases was brought to life, one woman is accused of mishandling DNA analysis with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - After a large forensic scandal involving over 1,000 cases was brought to light, one woman is accused of mishandling DNA analysis with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
Missy Woods is facing 102 felony charges, including cybercrime, perjury, attempting to influence a public servant and forgery.
In response to these allegations, one Colorado law firm is asking for victims of Woods to come forward.
The family of Alan Phillips says he was wrongfully convicted in 2022 for a double murder of two women in 1982. His conviction was based on his DNA analysis and testimony.
Phillips died by suicide in prison in 2023 after being sentenced to two life sentences.
Attorneys told 11 News that Missy Woods discovered Phillip’s DNA 40 years later and then deleted her analysis. They also said the DNA analysis was the only piece of evidence, and that if there had been more evidence, Phillips would’ve been arrested sooner.
