A law enforcement officer went to a Dunkin' Donuts on Boston's South Shore and left his gun behind.

The 61-year-old Plymouth County sheriff's deputy entered the doughnut shop in Pembroke last week to use the bathroom. He took off his gun and left without it.He realized his mistake, but when he returned to the shop about 45 minutes later, the gun was gone."

They asked me if somebody had turned anything in. And I had no idea what they were talking about. They called me back later and, they're like, it was actually a gun," said Natalie Onges, a doughnut shop worker.

It turns out a customer took the weapon and dropped it in a Weymouth mailbox. He called police and directed them to it.

Police said the man was afraid a child would find the gun, so he opted to take it with him instead of leaving it for someone else to find.
