Judicial Investigation Police (OIJ) are searching for Jaclyn Naomi Smith, a 40-year-old Canadian citizen who has been missing in Costa Rica since August 17.

Smith was last seen in Playa Hermosa, Carillo, Guanacaste. Her disappearance was reported to authorities on August 19.

In Spanish, a bit more info. Apparently, Jaclyn was living in Costa Rica since Nov 2019. Reported missing by her partner (bf?).

It's currently raining heavily in Costa Rica, has been for days and will continue like that.

Is there any chance she had a car or motorbike accident and skidded off the road into dense foliage and hasn't been seen?

Any chance she went jogging on a rural beach and had an accident?

Did she go swimming in the sea and have an accident?

Also, what was her job or source of income there?

Her husband, whose name was not provided by the agents, was the person who made the missing person report, said the organization in its statement.

According to agents, the couple was inside their house. But, when he was in the restroom she left the house, agents say in their report.

When her husband realized that she was not there, he looked for her but only found her cell phone and her clothes. The only thing that the woman, apparently, took was a credit card, the agents added in their brief report.

According to the report, Smith entered as a tourist, approximately in February 2020. She was in the process of doing the paperwork to obtain permanent residence in Costa Rica.

That was the day she went missing from her home and the last person to see her was her husband.

Interestingly, he didn't report her missing until the 19th August, which is 2 days later.

I don't know how long they have been living in Costa Rica permanently as ex-pats, but they have owned an apartment out there for 6 years, but sold that and bought another one last year.

Something must have gone wrong for her to vanish from home while he was in the bathroom. It's too bad there isn't more information. What was she wearing? Could she walk out the door and get a cab? Was there a disagreement about any aspect of her life that might cause her to think about leaving Costa Rica? Perhaps something happened to her at her apartment, and perhaps something happened after leaving. I wonder what time of day or night it was that she left.

She was just wearing the clothes she was wearing that day. She left all her other clothes, keys, belongings etc. at the apartment. The only thing she took were her bank cards.

Do they mean she did not take any luggage or do they really mean what clothes she had on?

"She left all her clothes" means she left all her clothes at the apartment apart from the ones she had on......it means she didn't pack a bag. She just walked out.

I doubt she was walking around Costa Rica naked.

I stay with clothes: Is she wearing the same clothes on the footage as the ones the day she took off?

If she was seen later at least this takes the focus away from that something maybe happened to her at home. So she may be hopefully somewhere around!
