Crufts dog poisoned with stitched steak

26 hours after competing at prestigious British dog show Crufts and returning home to Belgium, a prizewinning Irish setter died. The death of Thendera Satisfaction ('Jagger') was so suspicious, her vet did an autopsy. Inside her she found several cubes of beef which had been stitched together to hold substances she believes were poison. Forensic tests are being carried out.

Co-owners Jeremy Bott and Dee Milligan-Bott have called it a 'heinous crime' and say they suspect slug and rat poison were used. Belgium police have been informed. UK police say they haven't received a complaint yet. Crufts Kennel Club have offered their 'heartfelt sympathies'.

Jagger only came second in class and her owners suspect this may have been a case of mistaken identity or someone with a grudge against the club. Besides being a show dog, she was a 'priceless' family pet who was also regularly taken to senior homes to comfort elderly residents.

A second dog, a shih tzu, has died now and there are fears another six dogs have been poisoned. The Kennel Club, organizer's of Crufts show, say they are investigating. Meanwhile, a judge has come forward to say previous allegations of poisoning have been very hard to prove.
