WOMAN'S MUTILATED BODY FOUND OFF ROUTE 8 – Hartford Courant

Depending on the source, there are as few as five victims and as many as 18. At least five women have been found dumped in an area of Campville in Harwinton off Rt. 8. Most recent victim was found in December 2021, Briana Beam. Authorities believe her death is domestic violence and not related to the other four women discovered there from 1988-2006. The last victim located went missing in 2004. Other victims are speculated to possibly be killed by the same person, but dumped in other locations.

Found in Harwinton:
Karen "Brandy" Everett - 1988
Mildred Alvarado - 1989
Olga Marie Cornieles-Ubiera - 1994
Jessica Marie Muskus - 2006 (went missing in 2004)

Part of Jack Andrews' body was located at a rest stop not far from this exit in 1986. He was a hitchhiker last seen on I-95 in Connecticut.

BRIEF OUTLINE OF CASE

In August of 2004 22 year old Jessica Muskus was reported missing by her mother when she disappeared from the Bunker Hill neighborhood in Waterbury Connecticut after supposedly planning to meet a college friend she had just met. All hope was lost when on Nov 14th 2006 , a hunter found a human skull adjacent to the exit 41 sign in Harwinton, thrown down the bottom of an embankment. This led to the finding of the rest of the mutilated remains which ended up being those of Jessica Muskus. Her cause of death was never publicly made known. Although her family assures that she was never involved in any type of drug use or prostitution, other sources led the police to believe other wise.

The following information was put together using information from the case files of The Waterbury Police department, obtained by the Freedom of Information Act. Some names have been withheld to protect the privacy of those involved.

(NW)=Name Withheld

At approximately 12:40 pm on 9/2/2004,Linda Alley would come to the Waterbury Police Department to report her daughter, Jessica Muskus (1/19/1982),as missing. Jessica was last seen around Willow St. in Waterbury some time during the last week of July. She has been noted to disappear for short periods of time, however this incident was suspiciously long.

On 12/4/2006, a hunter found the skeletal remains of what would later be identified as those of Jessica Muskus, who had been reported missing on 9/2/2004,off the side of Exit 41 on Route 8 in Harwinton.

On 1/30/07 detectives spoke with a man by the name of Anthony Blanchard (12/23/1962), regarding his relationship to Muskus. Blanchard would detail his relationship with Muskus during the months leading up to her disappearance. He would tell police about the drug addiction she was struggling with. Speaking of times of driving around Waterbury with Jessica’s father, Mike Alley in search for her. Blanchard even recalled an incident of trying to get Jessica in his car to bring her home, and being viciously attacked by her.

It wasn’t until 2 years after Jessica’s disappearance that Anthony Blanchard would tell detectives of the last call he had ever received from Jessica. Sometime in July 2004 (the month Jessica was last seen), Blanchard had received a call from an out of town number that he assumed was Jessica asking for a ride, not wanting to deal with it at the time he didn’t answer. He claims he later called back the number and a man answered who told him that he had “gotten rid of her” and “kicked her out”. He hasn’t heard from Jessica since.

Detectives would eventually obtain a subpoena for the records of the pager that Blanchard owned at the time.Slightly suspiciously, they couldn’t concretely corroborate his story about the out of town calls. Detectives and Blanchard were also unsure if they had obtained the correct pager number that he had in July of 2004.

While questioning acquaintances of Muskus, police had learned of a rumor that Muskus had gotten into an altercation a few months prior to her disappearance. The altercation was with a man named (NAME WITHHELD)(12/23/1962). The unnamed man was dating a relative of Muskus at the time and would apparently give her drugs in exchange for oral sex.

Nov 2023 article detailing the cases

Brianna Beam is listed in this article as her death is technically unsolved, but the suspect was her boyfriend at the time, who died of an overdose (possible suicide) shortly after.

There is some consideration that Olga Marie Cornieles-Ubiera was not necessarily part of the group, based on early newspaper reports I'm seeing. The idea was that she did not have an arrest record at all which did not match the crime. One article lists an existing four (Karen, Mildred, Evelyn, ?) victims, and another only mentions three:
Before her body was identified, found, there was speculation that the yet-unidentified woman she might be another victim of the person who has killed three Waterbury prostitutes since 1988 and dumped their bodies off Route 8 in Harwinton, about 15 miles north of the Waterbury-Thomaston line.
But once police identified the victim as Cornieles-Ubiera, they learned the woman she had no history of prostitutionor drug involvement. Those have been, a common thread in the lives of the three earlier homicide victims from Waterbury and 15 women from in other parts of Connecticut whose names are on a list developed by the state homicide task force.'s list.
