WHITLEY CITY, Ky. — A car recovered in the aftermath of a high-speed pursuit through McCreary County on Sunday belongs to a missing Scott County man.
Scott County Sheriff Ronnie Phillips confirmed Monday that a silver 2013 Toyota Corolla belonging to Curtis Lee Lowe, of Smokey Creek, was recovered by Kentucky authorities. Lowe has been missing since Feb. 6, and was last seen as he left his home driving the car. The Sheriff’s Department has enlisted the help of the public in an effort to locate him.
The McCreary County Voice reported Thursday that Sunday’s pursuit began after McCreary County authorities received a call regarding a possible stolen vehicle. Both the McCreary County Sheriff’s Department and Kentucky State Police were involved in the pursuit, which began on U.S. Hwy. 27 near Whitley City Elementary School and continued north into Pulaski County at speeds exceeding 100 mph.
The U.S. Forest Service was dispatched after the driver of the vehicle — identified by The Voice as Kendra N. Bell, of Stearns, Ky. — and her mother fled into the forest on foot. A dog was used to search for the women.
The Voice reported that Bell is facing a litany of charges related to the pursuit itself. However, she is not charged with theft of the vehicle. How it wound up in her possession remains as much a mystery as Lowe’s whereabouts
