Cynthia was last seen in Raleigh, North Carolina on June 21, 1985. She was living in a group home at the time to try to get her drug addiction under control. On the day of her disappearance, she spoke with her mother on the phone and asked for permission to attend a party. Her mother told her she could not go. They got into an argument and Cynthia threatened to run away. About 15 minutes later, the staff at the group home called Cynthia's mother saying she had left, taking no belongings.
About 2 weeks later, Cynthia called her mother about 2:00 am. She said she was okay and not using drugs, but did not plan to return home until she was 18. She never contacted her mother again and has not been seen or heard from since.
