KY Darlene Chitwood, 50, suffering from low blood sugar, texted saying car broke down, last seen on camera walking past church, Stearns, 18 June 2022

I would also like to add that she kept in contact with her kids, daily several times a day. Her family and her kids are her life. She isn't the type to really go any amount of time without having contact with someone. I am going down there today and going to drive the area. My mom went a few days ago and she seen 7 black trucks. I am going to go see if any of them are the one from the video. I know Darlene's mom was a real bad diabetic and had to have shots. Darlene would give anyone the shirt off her back.
I so appreciate your caring efforts to help find Darlene. Thank you❤️ I, too, am very worried about Darlene. Throughout the years I’ve learned from hard lessons and a broken heart to attempt to lessen my investment in cases. Thus I usually now limit my posts to updated articles to help those interested in missing person cases without posting a personal comment. This case is one that has pushed me past my protective boundary. I’ve experienced low blood sugar many times and almost always faint. Without my family’s quick action, I fear what could have happened. Several times, the ambulance left our house with the lights screaming and blaring due to my pulse being so low…

She is the aunt of my daughter. She has always been so sweet to me and use to come to the house. I am very worried, not only because of her health but because I know too well the area. I also know how little help missing peoples cases get in that area. I just know her and I could only imagine how scared she is. I just want to keep hope, I also know she has been without medication for over a week :( I am so sorry to hear you also have diabetes because that is so scary. I don't have issues but several close to me do and when they take a spell it tears me up. I lived there most my life and know the area and most of the people. I have always followed true crime as well as missing people's cases. It just upsets me that so many is missing and they just keep coming up missing. Sorry for my ramblings I have just been looking for anything I could find. Thank you so much for bringing attention here on Darlene <3

bumping back up - realistically, the odds... ugh... I hope she is laying low somewhere, but...

I know we all hope she is found soon. The input about the area, and about active diabetes is very helpful and appreciated.

@Mrs.B1 re your comment about Darlene being so sweet I just wanted to add that it seems like everyone who has commented on her across the sites has posted the same opinion of her - she must be a really special person to be that loved.

I still think often of the (KY) Kandi Green Gonzalez thread. I hope both ladies didn't accept help from the wrong person.

She is just a sweet natured person. She is the type to give when she hasn't got it herself. I don't see her leaving with anyone she doesn't know. Darlene has a huge heart but she wouldn't trust just anyone, but if her sugar is low who knows :( There are many wonderful people in that community however, there are just as many that I wouldn't want to meet on any road. It is really a small town and everyone pretty much knows each other.

I'm assuming all hospitals have been checked? Even Jane Does? IMO

Yes, they have all been checked. Someone did have dogs out looking for her, they lost her scent where she was last seen on the camera. They are thinking she got into the black truck that was pictured in the picture from someone's camera. There are several black trucks in that area but I am pretty sure it is a 2019 Chev Silverado 155 LT Z71. The road she was on is a dead end road as well.

As of now the only facts that I have that can be proven is: She was last seen on camera around 6:37pm and she sent a text around 7pm stating she had broken down on Station Camp Rd. Where she was seen on camera is about 10 min or so from where she parked her Blazer (walking distance). She had asked if she could park her vehicle there and had mentioned that she thought her sugar was low. After she got permission then she started walking. I have so many questions but I try to consider her low sugar. It is the area where she went missing that really concerns me as far as someone doing something to her. It is really hard to explain without going into another case that is well known and I helped the detective for years as much as I could. If anyone is familiar with James Gregory Marlow and Cynthia Coffman that is a good place to start. There story is in a book Folsom Wolf. The case of Crystal Marler has ties to that area as well but they found her in another part of the county almost 20yrs later. There are other cases, many cases that are just as disturbing and to be honest I am so afraid for her.

Mrs. B1 sorry about your loved one. Since she had her cell on her I would think the local authorities would attempt to find her last known location. I know some agencies are not a quick to act on these cases as they all deserved such attention. I do hope she will be located soon.

Thank you and yes they should be able to. It is getting them to really do more than just file a report. Cases like this they really don't do anything unless they hear something. One girl that has been missing for several years went missing right in front of my old place right on the Ky Tn line. I never seen any law enforcement nor was I ever asked if I had seen this girl. One case they sit on for 3 years before they handed it over to the state police. I really can't thank everyone enough for bringing attention here to Darlene. Many people are very worried especially those who knew her personally because it just isn't like her. She lives and breathes for her kids and grandkids as they are her life. When I tried calling her it would just go straight to voice mail. Again, thank you all so much.

So, I assume, they are not yet trying to ping her phone or determine where her phone last pinged. Because no obvious foul play is suspected. She did have her phone with her, correct?

She should be considered "endangered missing" on account of her diabetic condition.

I am retired LEO, and it but it breaks my heart how many of these missing persons cases are handled either due to lack of personnel, training, experience or I hate to say it but interest. The one thing I can say with absolute clarity is that the family has to be vigilant with the public, but especially law enforcement. Family is the missing persons best advocate to get and keep that ball rolling.

t’s been more than a week since Darlene Chitwood was last seen near here, and her family is offering a $2,000 reward for information pointing to her whereabouts.

The 50-year-old Winfield woman was last heard from the evening of Saturday, June 18, when she texted her daughter and told her that her car had broken down at Station Camp and she needed a ride.

However, Station Camp is located west of Oneida, and Chitwood’s car was later found outside a tire shop near Stearns. That has her family concerned that she may have been suffering from a medical condition that was causing confusing. Chitwood is diabetic.

Video surveillance images showed that Chitwood parked her car at the tire shop and left on foot. She was later seen speaking to someone in a black pickup truck as she walked along East Appletree Road.

Chitwood is now the seventh person from Scott County currently missing. Several of them are also tied, in some form or fashion, to McCreary County.
Grandma... thanks for your input. May I ask your opinion and/or the general thoughts of the area.. what's up with SEVEN missing people in that area?
Thanks

Not that I am aware of, unless they are keeping that to themselves but I doubt it. As of right now they are just guessing the person driving the black truck or someone else had picked her up. I really wish I could explain how things are done there because I promise it is not the norm. They tell everyone to wait 24 hours when they really don't have to. Things are just not done right and it is one of the "good ole boy buddy system" ...All in how much money you got and who you are basically.

I agree and I have stressed this.

Has anyone considered involving KSP? If it were my loved one I would want state police in on the investigation.
Small world but I spent many summers in Stearns with my great Aunt Gloria Stearns. Hubby and I have been wanting to bring the kids to visit Stearns. I would also be happy to participate in a search if needed. Good luck!
