A 16-year-old girl faces a murder charge in the stabbing death of her friend, also 16, outside a McDonald’s in Washington, D.C. in an argument about sweet and sour dipping sauce.

Police did not identify the accused assailant in the murder because of her age. But the girl from Waldorf, Maryland, was arrested on Sunday in the death of Naima Liggon, also from Waldorf, police said. She was charged with second-degree murder while armed, police said, adding she had a knife at the time of her arrest.

“At the end of the day, someone is dead over a dispute over sauce,” D.C. Superior Court Judge Sherri Beatty-Arthur said, the Washington Post reported.

I'd ask what goes on in people's heads, but I'm really not sure I want to know!

In 1985 I did a graduate thesis on crime by teens, there were random incidents. Now, open the news, there are 100's, every day, with both young men and women, doing murder, with weapons.

Society has definitely changed in the last 40 years.

Naima Liggon, 16, was brought to a local hospital where she died of her wounds, the Metropolitan Police Department said.

According to police, the teens — both from Waldorf, Maryland — had ordered food at a D.C. McDonald's and then got in a car together, CBS affiliate WUSA-TV reported. The two then got into an argument over the sauces they had been given, which led to the stabbing, WUSA reported.
16-year-old girl stabbed to death by another teen during McDonald's sauce dispute

At a D.C. Superior Court hearing Monday, Detective Brendan Jasper testified that the fatal stabbing of Liggon originated from a dispute over “sweet-and-sour sauce” among three girls outside of the restaurant, per The Washington Post. Jasper added in his testimony that Liggon and another girl began assaulting the 16-year-old girl — who, based on surveillance footage, didn’t appear to fight back at first.

As Liggon and the other girl were about to get into a vehicle, Jasper claimed, the 16-year-old girl approached Liggon with a 7.5-inch pocketknife, stabbing her in the abdomen and chest

16-Year-Old Girl Killed in Apparent Dispute Over 'Sweet-and-Sour Sauce Outside McDonald's

Naima Liggon, of Waldorf, Maryland, was attacked in a car outside the fast food restaurant on 14th Street NW in the early hours of Sunday.

Investigators say she was with four people who visited a recreation centre before going to a house party and then to the McDonald’s.

During her court appearance, the teenager claimed that she acted in self-defence, claiming that the victim and another person jumped her. The judge ordered her to be held in juvenile detention pending her trial.

I saw the thread headline and just...wow. Sweet and Sour? That stuff isn't even good. Mental health care is so important. This should not be a thing that happens. Over sauce. SMH.

I am wondering if the defense is going to be self defense. The video footage should clear that up.

they had all been out partying together prior. I am betting this fight at McDonalds had nothing to do with sweet and sour sauce and something to do with someone feeling disrespected somehow at the party. The sauce was the excuse or what it may have appeared to be about to bystanders MOO

it will be interesting, I read it as they did start with her but were walking away when she pulled out the blade, that may knock out any self defense claim....

WASHINGTON (7News) — A Waldorf teen was sentenced to remain in a juvenile facility until she is 21 years old as part of a plea deal over a fatal stabbing in August at a Northwest D.C. McDonald's during a dispute over sweet and sour sauce.

WASHINGTON — A teen girl who police say stabbed a 16-year-old girl to death over McDonald's sauce earlier this year in Northwest D.C. has taken a plea deal.

WUSA9 first told you about this story back in August. Just one day before starting her junior year at Thomas Stone High School in Waldorf, Naima Leggon went to a D.C. house party with friends. A fight broke out and Naima ended up being stabbed twice by a girl with a 7.5-inch knife.

Naima’s grieving mother, Joy Liggon, said she’s disappointed in the plea deal that means her daughter’s killer could get out of jail by the time she’s 21.
