Ana Cecilia “CeCí” Escobar-Arevalo, a 40-year-old wife and mother of two from Northeast DC, hasn’t been seen since the morning of Friday, May 30, when she left home around 7:20 a.m. to head to work—and vanished.


Her phone last pinged near Newburg, Maryland. Her car, a blue 2008 Honda CR-V with DC tags (EB2261), hasn’t been found. Her loved ones say she never showed up for her shift—and never returned home.

Escobar-Arevalo was reported missing from the 5800 block of 8th Street NE.

Police say she was last seen wearing black pants, a black sweater, and black shoes. She’s described as 5'5", 142 pounds, with long brown hair and brown eyes.

Escobar-Arevalo's husband even said that he also contacted the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) to see if she was in a detention centre. Although the woman is an American citizen, Pérez considers an immigration arrest as a reason for her disappearance.

Escobar Arévalo, originally from San Miguel, El Salvador, has been living in the United States for 24 years, where she became a citizen. She is a mother and works as a bartender at the National Democratic Club.

Since I had her country of birth I could check, she's not in there (I checked using her name as Escobar, Arevalo and Excobar-Arevalo).

There have been incidents where a US citizen, non-criminal, has been detained by ICE due to having the exact same name or having the same address as a non-citizen that was an investigation focus, but it's not common. I also checked DC muncipal records for any traffic ticket issued before or after her missing timeline and she has nothing in the court system for DC. Nothing in Maryland either.

I wouldn't rule out a vehicular accident, but looking at the route - if she didn't leave her normal route from last location to work, she would have been spotted if she'd had an accident, that's a fairly straight shot south and well traveled.

She's a bartender and a beautiful woman, could she have had some unwanted attention from a customer? Was there any history of someone bothering her or following her from her shift? If so, hopefully she would have told her supervisor or at least a friend about it with some details.

I'm sure there must be license plate readers on all bridges -- wonder if police have ruled out her car driving farther south, out of that county? Last location was recorded by her phone ping -- no toll images for her car? Could she have left car somewhere and taken transit?
