The Metropolitan Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating 17-year-old Brian Alexander Ward, who was last seen in the 4600 block of 4th Street, Northwest, on Tuesday, September 29, 2020.

This incident was reported on Wednesday, September 30, 2020.

EARLY LIFE:
Brian Alexander Ward was born on September 8, 2003 to parents Jonathan and Lavangela Ward. He is one of eight children, and according to his family is loving, respectful and not one to get into trouble.

Each Sunday, he played drums at his father’s church.

DISAPPEARANCE:
On September 29, 2020, Brian and his father were speaking via FaceTime after Jonathan had finished a morning shift as a supermarket clerk at Giant. The pair were chatting as they normally did, and during the conversation Brian asked if he could hang out with his friends, as he’d finished his schoolwork.

Jonathan said it would be okay.

According to reports, Brian was last seen getting into either a black four-door Honda Accord or Acura in the 4600 block of 4th Street, Northwest, in Washington, D.C. The location was just a few blocks from his home in Petworth.

Brian’s parents grew worried when their son failed to return home. The next day, September 30, Jonathan contacted the Metropolitan Police Department to report him missing.

SEARCH:
According to investigators, searches have been conducted around Washington and as far away as Baltimore, as reports have come in saying Brian may have been travelling to Maryland at the time of his disappearance. They have looked for any sign of him online, but there hasn’t been any activity on his cellphone or social media. His bank accounts have also remained untouched.

Posters featuring Brian’s image and information regarding his disappearance have been plastered across the local area, including on bus shelters. The family has also set up the Finding Brian Alexander Ward Facebook page to help keep the case in the public eye.

The Ward family recently shared that they’ve been targeted by scammers looking to cash in on Brian’s disappearance. Jonathan says he received a text last year from someone claiming to have kidnapped his son for ransom. Police have deemed such claims to be fake and say they’re coming from individuals looking to take advantage of the family during this difficult time.

At present, investigators are unsure whether Brian voluntarily disappeared or if his case is suspicious in nature. They’ve received a lot of tips, but none have panned out.

According to Jonathan and Lavangela, it’s unlike their son to go somewhere without first telling his brothers, given how close they are.

CASE CONTACT INFORMATION:
Brian Alexander Ward went missing from the 4600 block of 4th Street, Northwest, in Washington, D.C. on September 29, 2020. He was 17 years old, and was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, a black jacket, black pants and black shoes. At the time of his disappearance, he had a slim build, standing at 5’5″ and weighing between 130 and 140 pounds. He had black hair styled in a crew cut, and brown eyes.

Currently, the case is classified as a critical missing person. If alive, he would be 18 years old.

Those with information regarding the case are asked to contact the Youth and Family Services Division of the Metropolitan Police Department at 202-576-6768. Tips can also be submitted anonymously via the Command Information Center at 202-727-9099, or directly to the family at 202-875-9523 and 202-568-2701.

DC Family Holds Out Hope for Teen Missing More Than a Year
October 6, 2021

A D.C. teenager who told his family he was going out with his friends over a year ago hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

Brian Ward was 17 when he was last seen getting in a car near his Petworth home in September 2020.

Police said there’s been no activity on his phone, social media or financial accounts.

Police said they’ve received lots of tips, but none panned out.

“Up to this date, we have not had anything concrete to where we could locate or even get any kind of a story of what happened the night he went missing,” Metropolitan Police Department Capt. Kevin Kentish said.

Brian’s family said they’ve been targeted by scammers demanding ransom. His father, Jonathan Ward, received a text last year claiming they kidnapped Brian. Police told them it’s a common trend.

“They were saying with a lot of missing kids, they send these to people trying to extort them for money,” Jonathan Ward said.

Brian’s parents say their son is respectful, loves his family and has never been in trouble.

“He knows his parents love him and miss him very much,” said his mother, Lavangela Ward.

“It’s a difficult thing, the unknown is really a hard, different thing,” Jonathan Ward said. “No kind of closure whatsoever.”

Last month, Brian’s family celebrated his 18th birthday without him, wearing shirts saying, “We miss you.”

“I’m very hopeful that my son is alive somewhere and I just need him to reach out,” his mother said.
