A 6-year-old boy is dead after apparently drowning in a bathtub.

Washington, D.C., police said the boy found dead Monday morning in a bathtub had been bound by his hands and feet.

Capt. C.V. Morris said police are still waiting for the medical examiner's report in the case of a 6-year-old boy found dead in Southeast D.C.

However, during a news conference Tuesday afternoon, Morris said because of the evidence police have collected so far and the interviews they have conducted, police will move quickly after receiving the medical examiner's report.

Morris said relatives of the boy have cooperated with police, and he believes investigators have talked to everyone they need to, including the boy's mother.

Sources told News4 that the boy's mother was taken to D.C. General Hospital, where she is under observation in the psychiatric ward. She made statements to police that are helpful to solving the crime, the sources said.

Morris did not rule out the mother -- or anyone else -- as a suspect. He also said that there's no outside person involved and that a motive in the case is "unclear."

Yesterday in D.C. Superior Court, Donmiguel's mother, Julia Barber, was found not guilty by reason of insanity, after mental health experts concluded that because of profound mental illness, she could not be held criminally responsible for her what she did to her son...

She has been at St. Elizabeths, the District's public psychiatric hospital, since soon after her arrest, and now she will remain there indefinitely.
