Wednesday, Nov. 11 will mark the 22nd anniversary of when Delores Smothers was found murdered in her Argentine Township home. After 22 years, the Argentine Township Police Department and Michigan State Police still intend to solve this cold case. Between 11 and 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 11, 1993, Smothers, who was 40 at the time, was stabbed to death in her home on Duffield Road, south of Silver Lake Road. It appeared that she had entered her home during a daytime break-in.
Smothers had not taken off her coat and her keys were found under her body. Police said early on that a suspect seen leaving the Smothers’ driveway was a white male, slight build, and with unkempt hair. He was driving a dark-colored, medium-size car.
