Denis Lapensée a été vu pour la dernière fois le 28 mai 1998 à Montréal. M. Lapensée souffre de schizophrénie. Il était très dépressif à la suite de sa rupture avec sa conjointe. Il a déjà mentionné qu'il se jetterait en bas du pont Jacques-Cartier.
M. Lapensée a une mauvaise dentition, une barbe courte et clairsemée et des cheveux courts avec une calvitie partielle. Il est droitier et fume la pipe.
