Canada's Missing | Case details
JASPERSEN, Diane Gay

On August 16, 1978, Diane Jaspersen, native of Calgary, Alberta, was last seen in Hope, British-Columbia. She was hitch hiking with her dog "Jack" on the highway leading towards Vancouver Island. Diane was headed to a friend's cabin where she was supposed to be staying and attend a festival, but never made it.

PS. She 6 feet tall so she stands out

There is not much on her. This was clipped from the newspaper and there was a reward for her.

When a cop found her near Hope, who was she with? She didn't have a car so under what circumstances did law enforcement happen upon her.

With cases this old, the missing don't have much family left to advocate for them...

Is her DNA on file?

I honestly think it's a food question though... if She didn't have a car, and was known to hitchhike, how did the cops find her? What made them let her go? I find it hard to believe she was all alone and the cops just let her be.

I wonder if there is a bit of negligence involved. Her family isn't here anymore to speak up/out for her, and no one is asking the question. Why did the cops let her go/leave? That initial report must say something, anything about what she was doing and who she was with, and what lead law enforcement to letting her go.

Has anyone had any luck with contacting Canadian law enforcement? I wonder how much info needs to be kept from the public given how long ago this happened? I wish we could find out more.

That being said, BC is the land of the wild. Many people go missing and are never found simply due to the vast wilderness landscape. Having been there myself, it's beautiful but it can be scary.

Yes, there is alot of wilderness around Hope. I live in BC but I had not heard about this case. I'm guessing the police saw her hitchhiking on the hwy. through that region and being she was aged 22, they may've just chatted with her a bit and left her to it. There used to be alot of hitchhiking in the 70s, even I did it back then once or twice locally with a friend but was lucky enough to not run into trouble.
