This story, IMNSHO, warranted a miniseries. He had a Ph.D. from a mail-order institution, and ran a "clinic" in the San Diego area in the 00s, where he "treated" patients with juicing, exercise, colonics, etc. and served a brief sentence for practicing medicine without a license. He got out, went back to his old tricks, and is now serving another, longer sentence for that, and elder abuse on top of it.

This sounds like a VERY deep potential rabbit hole! The first link says he's 73 years old; one wonders what hijinks he was up to before he did any of this.

'The pH Miracle' author sentenced in Vista court for treating woman without medical license

The author of the "pH Miracle" book series was sentenced Wednesday to five years and eight months in state prison for treating an elderly woman suffering from liver and thyroid disease without a medical license.
