Begaii was last seen on March 25, 2022. He left his residence in Dilkon, Arizona at about 10:00 p.m. and later was seen with friends, including Damien Niedo, another Navajo man from Dilkon, in Teesto, Arizona.

Both Niedo and Begaii disappeared that night. There was a report of a shooting incident at the residence the following morning, and the case is still under investigation.

Three days before Niedo and Begaii disappeared, a Hopi woman, Keisha Kootswatewa (32), also disappeared from Teesto. Due to the timing, there is speculation that the cases may be related. All three remain unsolved.

“There’s one saying I heard and it has always stuck with me,” she told the audience. “When an Indigenous woman goes missing, she goes missing twice. First, her body vanishes. Then her story.”

“I will not let this happen to Keisha. I want the community to know who Keisha is and to remember she is valued,” she said. “I have become her strongest voice, because she’s silent out there.”
