Hundreds of passengers have been caught up in a cruise tragedy after a Melbourne man was lost at sea on a Disney ship bound for Auckland.

Victoria Police said the 73-year-old man, from the north Melbourne suburb of Moonee Ponds, jumped overboard at 4.30am on Saturday as Disney Wonder sailed towards Auckland.

The ship turned around in the Tasman Sea in a bid to find the passenger but the man could not be located.

A 73 year old man. Oh my. It's unusual, usually it's women that go overboard on cruise ships.

I notice he's from Moonee Ponds, is that still a ln affluent well-to-do suburb?
I always remember the Australian comedian Barry Humphreys saying he grew up there.

I wonder if the man had some bad health news, and was feeling suicidal?

MOO.
