Christmas Eel Makes Tree Lights Electric

Christmas traditions don't get much stranger than having an electric eel power the tree lights, but one Japanese aquarium has made such a display into a recurring eco-friendly theme for the past five years.

Aluminum panels in the eel tank channel the electricity generated by the eel's movement to power the bright flashes on a Christmas tree at an aquarium in Kamakura, Japan. "It's beginning to eel a lot like Christmas," the Reuters headline quipped....
