Texas police say they still trying to locate a little boy who vanished following a visit to a park in Irving, Texas. In the early evening hours of June 21, 2006, Yancy Majano decided it was the perfect time to take her boys to Lively Park, a lush, 25-acre spread in Irving where her boys could blow off some steam.
As Yancy enjoyed the scenery with her boyfriend, the boys decided to play in a nearby wooded area. Two-year-old Elian and his older brother wandered off. But when playtime was over, Elian was nowhere to be found.
Police say Yancy Majano searched for her son frantically, but couldn't find him. That's when cops say she turned to them for assistance. Immediately, a full-fledged operation went into swing. Investigators pulled out all of the stops to try and find little Elian.
During the first 24 hours of searching for Elian, investigators say they searched high and low. They used helicopters, blood-hounds and pure man power -- just about anything that could help them find the child. But as the 24-hour mark passed, police and Elian's family grew more and more concerned for the boy. Unfortunately, searchers could not find Elian and police decided to issue an AMBER Alert.
But almost a month later, police had no new leads in the case. The state-wide AMBER alert was canceled. Investigators say they are still working the case and hope to bring Elian's family some answers.
Investigators are urging Texas residents as well as people living in the Southwest to keep an eye out for the child. They are also asking for tips that could help them uncover this mystery.
