80-year old Emmaline Croft was twice widowed, living in Alcoa, Blount County, Tennessee. December 8, 1990 she was raped, tortured, and murdered in her home, probably by more than one person. She was stabbed to death with a kitchen knife and fork, which were found in the hallway and by the couch.
Several suspects were questioned. Their names have not been released to the media. They were ruled out. The killer's DNA was collected, but there was no match in VICAP. Police believe Emmaline knew her killer, due to the extensive torture. There were no signs of forced entry. Robbery was not the motive. Police theorize that someone was very angry at Emmaline and wanted to watch her suffer.
Head detective is Kris Sanders at Alcoa Police Dept.
