Woman faces corruption charges after allegedly spending $21M at Harrods

A woman is battling corruption charges in London after allegedly racking up $21 million at Harrods department store using 35 credit cards during a decades-long spending spree.

Zamira Hajiyeva, the wife of a jailed banker from Azerbaijan, is being asked to explain her "unexplained wealth" thanks to a new anti-corruption enforcement scheme designed to target organized crime figures and others with foreign government ties.

Unexplained Wealth Orders are designed to target individuals who are unable to account for £50,000 (U.S. $66,000) or more of their wealth and are a civil -- not criminal --action. Targeted individuals must be able to trace their income to a legitimate source or face severe financial penalties.

35 credit cards.
Under what names?
Great when more evidence is produced.
What does one do, with all these items?o_Oo_O

When Great Britain was issuing Hajiyeva an "investor's visa" in 2008, were they that naive to not understand that her money were the result of some oil barons laundering money through her husband's bank? How come they suddenly became so vigilant?

Her daughter is the wife of the son of Azerbaijan Security Minister. All fits.

If this woman spent $21 million in ONE store, Harrods, using 35 different credit cards, wouldn't you think, the staff would know her face?
Yep, it is a large store, but she would have been noticed, so many times on security?
Wouldn't they realize, loads of money is spent, even if they don't realize she used different cards?
She would be leaving constantly with the items.
Surely, this would have been noticed, ages ago.o_Oo_Oo_Oo_O
Will love hearing, further info.

Harrods is visited by rich people, from all over the world. 21M over decades is not surprising for them. Of course they know Hajiyeva. Britain refused to extradite her to Azerbaijan. Britain never extradited. This is why rich crooks settle there. So, they refused to extradite the wife of a jailed banker, but decided to play "vigilantes" and asked her about the source of the money. She has to say, "I earned it".

A case of "not what you know but who you know". My husband and I sold our very modest house recently which we had lived in for 33years and purchased a small cottage, cash. We had to pay for a search on ourselves, and had to prove we had not been money laundering.

The credit cards would not be fake cards so they alone would not give cause for alarm. They even may have all been in her name. The problem was that the money used to pay the credit cards was likely money that had been embezzelled by her husband from the bank in Azerbaijan. It is suspected that the money belonging to the bank was removed from the country and deposited in the UK. Good for the UK to try to discover this kind of corruption!

There'll always be an ENG but, pray, the kingdom is united and it is called the UK.

I met a woman who had lived in Dubai. She had to leave. She said people shop continuously and are into having more and better.
