Erica was last seen leaving her job at Hardee's in Allendale, South Carolina at 11:30 pm on November 6, 2006. Her boyfriend, Derek Maner, whom she lived with, was supposed to pick her up, but he never did, so she got a ride with her cousin. On the way, they passed Maner's car, pulled over, and Erica got into his car. They had an argument in the car, and Maner states that Erica jumped from the car and ran into the woods. He says that he stopped to search for her, but couldn't find her, and assumed she went home. Erica has never been seen again. Maner waited 2 days before telling Erica's parents that she was missing.
An extensive search of the area turned up Erica's shoes, clothing, and some hair extensions, but no indication of her whereabouts. Cadaver dogs did not detect the smell of a dead body in the area.
Authorities do not believe that Erica left of her own accord. Her blood, hair, and tissue were found on the underside of Maner's vehicle. In April 2008, he was arrested and charged with Erica's murder. At trial in February 2009, he was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
Erica's remains have not been found.
