Thread for what you theorize about what might (or might not) have been missed/ in the investigation
  • This is not an LE bashing thread or a thread about personal dislikes
    • If post is "LE is terrible, inept, etc", this equals NOT OK
    • If post is " I wonder if the pool filter was checked ?", this equals OK
    • If post is "Due to scene being released and camera crews being allowed in *whatever area* where it appears X was located, it is possible that * description of whatever might have been missed or destroyed* and this might be detrimental *how*", this equals OK

I suspect, for whatever it's worth, down the road somewhere we will find out that releasing the scene as early and as often as LE did, there's going to be an argument for how contaminated any crime scene evidence may be. Supposing this ends up in a trial it just seems like evidence from NG's home is all going to be an easy argument for any defense attorney that the scene was contaminated and evidence is all suspect at that point.

That's what baffled me so much initially.

I wish we could know more details about the scene, because it really seems like Nanos was treating it like a senior citizen wandering off at first (obviously Nancy does not have any cognitive issues, but sudden medical conditions like UTIs can cause confusion.)

Or at least like he wasn't quite sure - obviously there were drops of blood, and it was discussed as a potential crime scene, but it seems like they weren't 100% sold.

Opening the crime scene up within 24 hours or less seems very, very fast. Not collecting all of the lantana or the front porch mat was odd. I wonder what the LE rationale was. Still so perplexing. NOT blaming LE, I am just curious what the rationale was.

A "silver alert" situation is one thing, but they called that Homicide team in early so SOMETHING looked really off immediately. I simply cannot make sense of having enough "WTF happened here?" thoughts to call in the homicide team, but then release it back to the family so quickly. And then rinse and repeat. It's an absolute nightmare of a situation from an evidentiary side of things. I wondered if maybe Pima County was just not super well versed in homicide investigations & that may well be the case as they only handled 6 last year (source: AZPM News). Tucson PD handles a good bit so it skews the number/rate off for the county as a whole, including the clearance rate which I have not been able to locate for Pima County SD.
