In Finland (where Valentine's Day is seen as more of a time to celebrate friendships), managers of Helsinki Seniorisäätiö, which owns four senior nursing homes, thought it would be a lovely idea to ensure every one of its 600 residents received a Valentine card.

So they appealed on their Facebook page, and promised to reply to every single card as encouragement - because the world's a tough place, and who's going to take the time to write to a lonely senior they don't even know? :)

So far, the residents have been sent 6,200 cards, and they're still coming. From as far away as the U.S and Taiwan. Staff fear they won't be able to keep their promise of answering every card now. Volunteer Silva Siponkoski said:

"These days, many of us long for something more than just bills to come through the mail slot. Somehow it seems like this society has a need to share warm thoughts with others."
