TAMPA — A 22-year-old security officer at Booker T. Washington Elementary School has been arrested and charged with sexual battery for blindfolding and sexually assaulting a 6-year-old student, authorities said.

Malcolm Curtis Tillman of Tampa was arrested Wednesday after investigators received forensic evidence that supported an allegation from the girl, according to Tampa police. He was hired July 1, a school district spokeswoman said, as the district boosted its security staff under a new state mandate to station a guardian at every elementary school.

The girl told investigators Tillman took her out of class to a "game room" at the school on Jan. 10 and told her to sit on a chair with her hands behind her back, according an arrest report and a search warrant affidavit filed in the case.

"He told (her) he was going to take care of (her) and it was going to be okay," the affidavit says.

He then covered the girl's eyes and nose with a black jacket, "told (her) not to be scared," and sexually battered her, the documents say.

When the girl removed the jacket from her eyes, she saw Tillman's pants were unbuttoned, the records say. Tillman told the girl "they were all good," the affidavit says.

If this is proven, hope this creep never works anywhere near children, or anyone vulnerable.
Heavy laborious outside work, in the elements, where other guys are in charge.
Hope there will be a prison sentence, and not just parole.

How long did it take for the physical evidence to come back? In the meantime was he out on leave? What an outrage.

This poor little girl. I'm proud she told. She showed the police the room, the chair and described the black fleece jacket put over her head. Tillman's jacket was sent to forensics and his semen was on it.

In court Thursday, Malcolm Curtis Tillman admitted what he had done, pleading guilty to a charge of attempted sexual battery. The victim was 6 years old.

In exchange for his guilty plea, Tillman agreed to a 10-year prison sentence. He will remain on probation for 15 years following his release. He will have to register as a sexual predator, a designation that severely restricts where he will be able to live, work or even be present.

Tillman, now 24, said little during a brief court hearing Thursday afternoon before Hillsborough Circuit Judge Michael Williams.

Seated wearing a medical mask in a visitation room at the Orient Road Jail, Tillman watched by video and answered a set of standard questions from the judge about whether he understood the consequences of his guilty plea. He listened as a prosecutor read a summary of what had occurred.

“Did you in fact commit that crime?” the judge asked.

Tillman paused, then answered: “yes, sir.”
