Deputies investigate I-4 shooting, 17-year-old boy dead

Deputies did not release the names of the victim, citing their interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a constitutional amendment passed by voters in 2018 that is designed to protect crime victims, but that also deprives the public of information that had long been made available in Florida.

Two other minors were in the car with the boy when he was shot and detectives believe they were targeted. “We don’t believe at this point that this was a random act of violence,” Losat said.

He added that the highway was busy Monday afternoon, putting others at risk. “At any time, any of those rounds could have struck another innocent person,” he said.

Deputies are looking for a late ’90s model tan Ford Taurus “with maybe some type of of goldish tint to it,” Losat said. The car had no rims, tinted windows or other identifying features, he said.

One dead after shooting on Interstate 4 in Hillsborough County

Investigators waled the area of eastbound I-4, from Strawberry Crest High School to Forbes Road, and found what they believe to be evidence of the shooting, but they did not provide any details.
