On Sunday, Sept. 14, the Volusia Sheriff's Office (VSO) shared bodycam footage on Facebook of the damage done to Friendship Elementary School in Deltona, after deputies responded to a fire alarm overnight.

Well, I’m glad their Moms are the ones who turned them in. Maybe it’s time for ankle bracelets until they graduate high school. Home and school. Lose their freedom to do anything but learn.

Make them read every book in there.
At home with an ankle bracelet.

Try to find out the source of that rage and help them?

They'd only have to destroy a few hundred books to hit that.

Source: my mother is a primary school librarian.

They should have to go clean and replace what they've destroyed along with other punishments.

If there was any Hazmat cleanup, it wouldn't be. That's not cheap.

In my old town during the summer, 5 teenage boys broke into the Catholic high school and did a comparable amount of damage. The "stupid criminals" aspect of this, besides them going on the then-fledgling social media and bragging about it (see footnote), was that someone had defecated on a teachers' desk, and when DNA identified the culprit, he tried to say that his twin brother, who had also participated in the vandalism, did that, and no they weren't identical. (I worked with several people who had attended that school, and yes, they joked about which teachers' desks they would have liked to have done that to themselves.)

Footnote: Around the same time, a water park opened, and maintenance workers discovered that someone had poured cooking oil on the slide, which damaged the finish badly enough, it would have to be replaced to the tune of $30,000. Those kids also bragged about it, and in this case, they had to make restitution.

I agree, these kids need counseling and possibly to make restitution when they can get jobs.

“They broke into the school during the daytime hours, then returned later in the evening to look at the damage and cause more,” the sheriff’s office said.

That^^ is appalling. They did some damage during the day. So instead of thinking about it and feeling regretful, they doubled down and went back to do more damage. They are truly messed up kids, imo.
