Police: Florida woman charged in 5-year-old stepson's drowning in man-made ditch

Osceola county stepmother Cheyenne Star Fite, 25, is facing charges after her husband's 5-year-old son drowned in a man-made ditch.

According to police records, Cheyenne Star Fite, 25, was responsible for watching the child, as well as his two siblings, as they played in their home's yard

good lord! She claimed she was inside folding laundry and the child was "playing" in the mud. First off, that wasn't mud, it was pig sh@#. Secondly she apparently had him outside naked as a punishment. WTF is wrong with people? why does this sort of mess keep happening?

According to an arrest report, Fite had been looking after her stepson, 5-year-old Riley Scot Hogeback, on October 11, when he tumbled down a waste disposal ditch in Kissimmee and drowned after becoming intoxicated by fumes and animal excrement.

Another child reportedly told police that Fite had actually been asleep at the time of the boy’s death. They also added that Fite had been punishing Riley by leaving him “outside naked” because he had wounded a chicken that day, reported Law & Crime.

There was a child size boogie board so he probably tried to float. I can’t believe they dug a hole that deep and didn’t put any barrier around it for safety. The little 5 y/o girl was likely expected to keep an eye on the other two. JMO She’s going to need therapy to help her understand this wasn’t her fault.

Cheyenne's bond was posted by a bonding company on 12/23/24. conditional that she not consume alcohol, drugs, weapons, firearms, or have contact with her surviving children.

She has a public defender
