They were last seen at 710 S. Victory Way on Monday around 2:30 p.m., deputies say.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, a team of Haitian soccer athletes turned in their room keys but left behind all their luggage and personal items.

The missing delegates are Antione Joseph Mithon, Nicholson Fontilus, Peter Mianovich Berlus, Anderson Petit-Frere, Steevenson Jacquet and Oriol Jean. They range in age from 18 to 32.

These guys had one chance at the brass ring and they grabbed it. There is high probability of this thread turning into asylum toxicity - vast appreciation for the mods in advance! I expect word will come from a US Embassy in Florida shortly.

My thoughts exactly...seeking asylum. Can't really blame them if they didn't want to return to Haiti. JMO

Six members of a Haitian Special Olympics contingent are missing, according to a news release from the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.

The six went missing in Kissimmee -- just south of Orlando -- and were last seen Monday afternoon around 2:30 p.m., the bulletin said.

They all turned in their room keys and left behind their personal bags and belongings, the release said. The reason they left the games is unknown, the statement noted. Foul play is not suspected, according to the sheriff's office.

The group was participating in the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games in Orlando, which began Sunday and run through June 12.
"The individuals are all adults, five of whom are not Special Olympics athletes and one who is an adult with intellectual disability," the Special Olympics said in a statement to CNN. "The well-being of these delegates is our foremost concern. Local authorities have indicated they have no reason to believe the health and safety of any of the individuals is at risk. To expand the reach and effectiveness of law enforcement's efforts to locate these individuals, they have been reported as missing persons."

So if they think their health and safety is not at risk, I guess they think they all took off voluntarily? But why?? Seems like a disturbing decision to make -- there had to be a major reason for it -- and very strange that 6 people could apparently disappear together like that.

Why leave all your belongings behind if you leave voluntarily? Wouldn't you need some clothes and other things?

Maybe no room for 6 people plus luggage in whatever method they used to leave...car? van? taxi? Don't recall reading anything about that. Wonder if any have family in the area, or in the US somewhere.

Reasonably confident they ran to request amnesty, refugee status in the United States. They would’ve been in deep trouble with their home country delegation had they gotten caught planning it or doing it, so they ran with the clothes on their backs. There are some fascinating similar stories of years gone by. Mikhail Baryshnikov in 1974 in Canada, coming off stage and running for his life down a street in Toronto chased by the KGB … History: June 29, 1974 - intrigue, defection, international shock. this also happens at the Olympics whenever it’s held in a first-world country.

If they are located, wouldn’t they be expelled - per Title 42?

It's possible they had help through the Haitian community, that this was planned ahead of time, and that they are staying in a safe house. If they are seeking asylum, they may presently be consulting with an attorney to build their case.

Exactly right.

It’s been almost 48 hours. Would be good to hear their intentions.

I believe they're hiding under the radar until it is safe to emerge. Safe from what, I don't know but that is my guess. To be such a smooth "escape" I'd say it was planned prior to arrival with everything lined up. JMO

Is he separate from the group of 4/5 individuals missing from the Special Olympics Haiti Delegate that has a thread here?

I have a hard time getting indignant/angry with anyone who is doing exactly what I think I would be doing in his position.

Choice: board the plane and return back to a poverty-stricken, hurricane-flattened country with zero opportunities for him and - hello - a recent coup where the PRESIDENT WAS MURDERED
Or
Disappear from Disney World (I mean seriously, this guy just spent a week at All Star Sports in Disney … imagine watching children in rags starve in the streets in your native land and then getting flown in to an athletic event in America, land of freedom and riches, with this view out your window):

Quote edited by me.

So after we establish the well-being of the gentleman is just fine, we're to be calling emergency 911 why exactly?

Sigh.
