I found a potential match (missing woman not in any of the databases) and left a message for the Broward County medical examiner a few months ago with no response. If anyone feels strongly about this match, can you take over submitting? I’ve submitted potential matches before, but prefer not to if I can help it.

Anyway, here’s what I found:

Newspaper clippings attached — Jeanne McInerney went missing on 4/12/1974. Her adult children had her declared deceased in 1975. I was unable to find any additional information indicating that she was ever found so I think she’s likely still missing.

- Jeanne went missing 4/12/74, the UID was found 4/23/74 with an estimated PMI of 6 days. Not exact but very much in the ballpark particularly if she was in the water

- Jeanne is mentioned as having dentures, the UID is listed as having an upper dental plate

- estimated age is 36-45, Jeanne was 59. That’s definitely off, but I’ve seen age estimates be much more inaccurate than that. Jeanne is also said to be “well to-do” so she may have appeared younger than her age

- Jeanne went missing from her home at 44 S Sewall’s Point Rd (Martin Cty, Florida) The UID was found “near a wooded area along Hiatus Road, about 2-1/2 miles south of State Road 84 and SW 125th Avenue” in Broward Cty, Florida.

Per attached map, the UID was located about 1hr and 40 min from Jeanne’s home (red point is Jeanne’s home, the white point north of her home is approximately where her car was located, and the white point south of her home is approximately where the UID was located).

- The UID’s cause of death is listed as drowning, but she also has abrasions all over her body so it sounds possibly like it was a forced drowning. Jeanne’s husband sounds a bit suspicious in the articles. If someone Jeanne knew well disposed of her body, it seems likely that her body would be disposed of in a different place than her car in order to make the connection more difficult. Jeanne’s house is between both locations, so this certainly doesn’t seem impossible.

Thoughts?

The dates and the dentures are what’s compelling to me.

That is a huge difference in age. Altho, a face lift could have made her appear younger. I would think the medical examiner would be able to see signs of that tho.

Age estimates aren't usually determined by facial appearance. They use things like wear and tear on the joints and teeth, gum health, condition of the skull sutures, condition of the spine, presence of signs of arthritis in the hands, etc.

When I took a forensics class a few years back, they said that it's generally quite difficult to determine an exact age for people who are adult (so skull sutures are closed, wisdom teeth erupted or removed, and growth plates have hardened) but aren't yet old enough to show much wear of joints and teeth (mid-forties generally, though it's not precise). But young and old are much more likely to be accurate.

I would expect a woman in her upper 50s to be showing more signs of age, but the dental plate definitely points to the older end of the estimated age and possibly older.

Is this her?

Yes!!!

Similar distance, but the other way, as the now identified Singer Island Jane Doe/Susan Gale Poole. She was from Broward and found in Palm Beach. This UID was from Palm Beach and found in Broward. Similar time as well. I'd definitely reach out to Martin County and have them contact Broward.

Jeanne McInerney is now on NamUs, MP93173.

That’s so exciting! And there’s a photo of her! Now that I’ve seen a photo and her height, I’m no longer convinced this is a match but I’m glad to see my email is going somewhere nonetheless:)

Updated the photos for both #UP1340 & MP93173 with AI
They look nothing alike unfortunately. But hoping with new DNA and AI technologies these cases will get solved sooner or later.
