Found Safe FL - Caden Speight, 17, was found. safe Officials say he was not kidnapped

  • #221
Daniel Chapin, founder of the Uvalde Foundation, said the incident highlighted the consequences of false reports.

“The resources and time we dedicate to finding a missing child are sacred, and we act on the highest presumption of danger when an Amber Alert is issued,” Chapin said. “This case tragically demonstrates the profound cost of a false report. We wasted countless volunteer hours, expended funds on a reward and extensive search efforts, and utilized our sophisticated school threat database.”

Chapin added that the foundation will seek formal charges if authorities confirm the incident was a “deliberate hoax.”

It’s interesting to me Uvalde withdrew a reward. A reward I never even heard of. I wonder if LE recommended the reward and what it was?

Of course Caden's parents are going to try to support him in any way possible. That's what parents do. Let's hope they also ensure he is held accountable, whatever that means with regard to the matters of the situation.

We don't know. He could be a seriously troubled teen, or a spoiled brat. (We do know he's not terribly bright considering he was at Walmart immediately before the "incident" and witnesses reported seeing a boy on a bicycle in the area at the time of the shooting.) I believe LE will respond to this in a way that best serves the community they protect. Assuming they do so with transparency regarding the details when they are known. It doesn't always go that way, but I hope LE are fair in their charges, assuming there are charges of some kind. (They immediately came out with the video from Walmart and retracted the abduction theory they'd been fed by Caden (indirectly).)

ADMIN NOTE:

One of the most basic rules of Websleuths is that members are not allowed to sleuth family members, and that includes their social media.

Keep that in mind going forward or there will be a temporary or permanent loss of posting privileges.

Thank you.

Uvalde also put up a reward in Emmanuel’s case, then quickly withdrew it after Mom refused to cooperate with LE or provide their seach team with help.

I hadn’t seen anything mentioned about them in this case though, thats odd isn’t it?

I’m not sure if LE can legally charge him with anything. He didn’t file a false police report; he just lied to his mom. I guess it will depend on what he told the police when they found him. If he continued the lie, he could possibly be charged with obstruction? FTR, I definitely think he should be held accountable for his actions.

I wonder if he was really going through it and came up with this half cocked plan to find out if his family cared about him? I bet it never occurred to him that an Amber Alert might be issued.

Ryan Borgwardt faked his death and was convicted of obstruction for misleading LE with staged evidence. That might be applicable here, with that false text. Borgwardt was missing for months though, not a day, so they might not consider it worthwhile to pursue charges here.

Shouldn't the title of this post be updated to, "He falsely reported that he was kidnapped by 4 Hispanic men?"

The UF also offered, and subsequently withdrew, an award in the Jake and Rebecca Haro case.
