Did this coin have any monetary value or sentimental value only? It is an unusual item to wear.

She often wore a bronze salvage coin necklace.

It's a Spanish colonial silver piece, either 4 or 8 reales, reverse side. It was in common use in Colonial America, including Florida which was of course Spanish, and would've been in use there until well into the 19th century when FL became a state. The date is at the top, and looks like it would be readable but for the lighting angle and intensity (the dealer I e-mailed it to said 1600s). Inscription is in Latin (rex = king). The pendant and necklace are bronze, as described. Numismatically, these coins are common.
8 reales = 1 Spanish dollar
Also, an image search for "pieces of eight coin" gives lots of good results.
So for Carey, it would be of sentimental value (MOO).

How did you find the info that there was an altercation between Carey and her roommate in 2005? I had not seen anything about that in the police report so just curious
