Woman found murdered, dismembered in suitcase after disappearing from Orange County with boyfriend

In a new report obtained by WESH 2, Orange County deputies explain how a missing woman from Central Florida was found murdered on the side of a highway in Georgia.

Carmen Elsa Escalante Carrera, 29, was found dead and dismembered in a suitcase on the side of a Georgia highway — and deputies say her boyfriend, 41-year-old Jorge Javier Quintero, is responsible.

Deputies say license plate readers capable of capturing photos showed a trash bag in the bed of the truck, and the shape appeared to be that of a human body.

On Oct. 31, officials say they were able to locate Quintero and the rented truck in Alabama, which resulted in a shootout between the man and US Marshalls. Quintero was critically injured, but as of writing the report, deputies said he was still alive.
