Port St. Lucie man who killed ailing wife in 'act of love' gets 9 years

FORT PIERCE — William Hager’s fatal shooting in May of his wife of nearly 60 years was an “act of love and desperation,” one of their daughters testified Wednesday.

Originally charged with first-degree murder, the 86-year-old Hager was sentenced Wednesday to more than nine years in prison after pleading no contest to a reduced charge of manslaughter.
