Police respond to critical incident in Boynton Beach; local schools and businesses on lockdown

Police asked residents to avoid the area bounded by High Ridge Road, Miner Road and Gateway Boulevard while officers remain on the scene. Authorities said schools and businesses within the affected area have been placed on lockdown as a precaution, although the incident did not occur at a school.

In a statement, the BBPD urged the community to steer clear of the neighborhood and said more information will be released as it becomes available.

On Monday, January 12 shortly before 4:00 p.m., Boynton Beach Police communications received a report of a shooting at All-American Farms Inc. (2400 High Ridge Road #101) in Boynton Beach. Upon arrival, officer located 67-year-old Charles Geragi and 72-year-old Richard Geragi of Delray Beach in an office suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.

BBPD Officers quickly identified 39-year-old Nesar Dawla of West Palm Beach as the suspect. Officers established a perimeter and began canvassing the area with assistance from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office K-9 and Aviation Unit. It was then discovered that witnesses reported seeing Nesar run across the street from the business and flee in a white Cadillac SUV.

Around 4:40 p.m., a concerned resident called in a suspicious vehicle near 524 Northwest 7th Court in Boynton Beach that matched the description of the vehicle Nesar had been seen fleeing in.

Officers immediately located the vehicle and initiated a high-risk traffic stop. The suspect’s vehicle failed to stop and after a brief pursuit, Nesar was observed shooting himself which resulted in the vehicle crashing near 133 Leisureville Boulevard. BBPD SWAT team breached the vehicle and located Dawla inside with a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The preliminary investigation shows that in January 2024, the Boynton Beach Police Department conducted a fraud investigation into Nesar’s brother, Sadman Dawla. It was determined that Sadman had defrauded the shooting victims of over $5 million. The result of the investigation found probable cause in charging Sadman with four felony counts of grand theft over $100,000. Sadman was found guilty of all charges. It was alleged that Nesar was also involved in defrauding the company however there was insufficient probable cause to make an arrest.

On the date of the shooting, Charles Geragi initiated a meeting with Nesar to discuss the possibility of Nesar returning funds back to the victims as it relates to Sadman’s case. During the meeting, Nesar pulled a firearm from his waist and began shooting at both victims, resulting in the victims succumbing to their injuries.

The investigation is ongoing. BBPD Major Case Detectives ask anyone with information to contact Detective Gleicher by emailing [email protected] or by calling 561-742-6163.
