William and Cruz Hooten were last seen at 8:00 p.m. on April 30th at 400 South Florida Avenue, Lake Morton Plaza. The couple did not tell anyone where they were going and it is unknown who is driving.

Cruz Virgil Hooten is 79, 5 foot 2 inches, 130 pounds and suffers from dementia

William Brooks Hooten is 62, 5 foot 10 inches, 125 pounds and is dependent on medication and should not be driving.

Their vehicle is a 2016 Hyundai Tucson SUV, Blue, bearing Florida tag IC2-6LN.

That location is near downtown Lakeland. There are major highways that go thru there. I wonder if they took a wrong turn. Hopefully traffic cameras will show which direction they headed in and who was driving. There are a lot of bodies of water.

The family must have had contact with them but they are still trying to find them. The great granddaughter’s Facebook page is mentioning they are in Sandusky County, Freemont, which is their hometown and that they’re traveling with a chihuahua.

"We know that they are OK. They made it through Georgia and they are probably heading to Ohio," said Gary Gross of the Lakeland Police Department.

He told Patch that the 62-year-old William Brooks Hooten and his 79-year-old wife Cruz Virgil Hooten had apparently gone on a trip to Ohio.

"Nothing unusual according to detectives. They packed and took their dog on a trip," he said.

He said the silver alert is still active because the couple suffers from various medical conditions and shouldn't be driving.
